    Phytoremediation of Arsenic Contaminated Water

    Get PDF
The present investigation deals with the detoxification of arsenic contaminated water using phytoremediation technique. Three macrophytes Azolla pinnata, Lemna minor, and Hydrilla verticillata were exposed to 1.0 ppm of an arsenic salt (sodium arsenite) separately as well as in combination (ALH) for 10 days. The concentration of arsenic in control (wild) macrophytes was below detectable limit. Following exposure, the concentration of arsenic increased steadily in all the plants, and after 10 days, the efficacy of arsenic depletion in phytoremediated media was in the order: A. pinnata (88.06%) > L. minor (82.56%) > H. verticillata (77.53%) and 85.50% when applied in combination (ALH). It was found that A. pinnata can detoxify the arsenic contaminated water most efficiently

AbstractThe impact of sublethal toxicity of sodium arsenite on hematological and certain biochemical parameters of the fresh water catfish Clarias batrachus has been analyzed following exposure of sublethal concentration (1mg/L; 5% of LC50 value) of sodium arsenite for 10, 30, 45, and 60 days. Arsenic bioaccumulation in the blood tissue of the fish increased progressively with increased period of exposure. The values of total erythrocyte count (TECs), total leucocytes count (TLCs), hemoglobin concentration, and packed cell volume (PCV) 1.40±0.03×106/mm3, 174.83±2.74×103/mm3, 5.01±0.26g/100ml, 25.00±1.06 were observed respectively at the end of 60 days of exposure. The results of hematological indices were found to be 179.23±8.81fl/cell for mean corpuscular volume (MCV), 35.92±1.89pg/cell for mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH) and 20.17±1.12g/dl for mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC). The present findings are clearly indicating severe fish anemia due to the arsenic salt exposure. The continued arsenic toxicity results in decreased serum protein concentration that might be a cause for the loss of weight as well as weakness in the fish

India lost first place in worldwide ranking on total installed wind capacity to china. Due to some issues like, grid issue, unavailability of infrastructure, monitoring wind turbine, offshore wind related R & D activities in the country, etc. This makes attributed to the slower pace to addition of wind power capacity; due to unavailability of on-shore wind sites with sufficiently high wind velocity is expected to take centre stage in the next few years. Low wind velocity makes the investment unattractive to developers. In current situation, monitoring and R & D is an investment option. Which has already seen favourable response in a country like china Germany, Denmark would begins in India. This analyses the present situation of wind energy farm at District Devas, Madhya Pradesh and investigates the possibilities of monitor the wind turbine to enhance the performance. In this paper, wind speed, peak speed, standard deviation, wind power density is to estimated monthly at different altitude. Monitor capacity factor, energy generated through wind turbine, X-chart and R-chart drawn, maintenance and environmental impact have been analyzed

Objective: Present study was carried out to evaluate the serum level of lactate hydrogenase enzyme in normal, precancerous, and cancerous subjectsindependently, to probe into the possible interrelationship among them, by utilizing biochemical parameter as an adjunct or solely to diagnose themalignant condition. Methods: The study was carried out to evaluate the role of serum lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) as a biochemical parameter in the oral premalignantand malignant and normal subjects. Estimation of LDH was carried out by spectrophotometric method of Wroblewski and LaDue. Statistical analysiswas done using Student's t-test.Result: An increased level of LDH was found in serum in patients with oral premalignant and malignant lesions. Moreover, the raised level of LDH hada positive correlation with the histologic grading. Conclusion: Serum LDH in normal subject is 338.82 WL unit /ml. However the mean LDH value increases to 485.66 in premalignant lesion and to762.72 WL unit /ml in malignancy. Thus we conclude that serum LDH level increases in premalignant lesion and malignancy. Keywords: Lactate dehydrogenase, Leukoplakia, Oral cancer
